Raising children is a full-time job on its own. When you’re out to enjoy a night out, you can leave your child with us. They’ll be having a lot of fun with their friends in a fun and familiar environment.

We schedule a Parent's Night Out once per quarter with care covered from 6:00pm to 6:00am.  We offer a discounted fee for this service for all children enrolled full time.

Parent Handbook 2023

Introduction:

Welcome to Giggle Nest, and thank you for your confidence in our ability and eagerness to professionally care for your child(ren). The purpose of this handbook is to communicate policies and procedures; and to give you an idea of what you can expect for your child as he/she spends the day at our facility.

Contract:

Your specific hours will be agreed upon in the contract we sign. Please be sure that your travel time to get to and from work is included in the contracted time, as late charges will be strictly enforced. Other policies listed in this handbook will also be applied as described. Please feel free to ask any questions that you may have, at any time. Responses to non-emergency issues can be sent via e-mail or text message. However, phone calls for more urgent matters are expected so we are able to address emergency issues in a timely manner.

Parent/Faculty Communication:

We will communicate your child(ren)’s progress through the Brightwheel app. If time is needed to speak about something specific, we would need to make an appointment as during the day we need to have undivided attention on our classes. We believe open communication between provider and parent is the key to having a child successfully transfer from your home to their home away from home here at Giggle Nest. The staff will meet daily, during quiet time to discuss each child’s performance for the day and to share insights and progress. While your child is in our care we will follow a strict schedule as it has proven to be best practice for children. Responses to non-emergency issues such as vacation dates or updates on our child can be sent through our Brightwheel app or general mailbox: info@mygigglenest.com. You will be provided both directors' personal cell phone numbers in case of an emergency. There are times during the day that all hands are on deck, getting messy in projects or playing games with children and we cannot answer the office phone. Voicemails are checked daily but the app is the fastest and most efficient form of communication.

Direction and Guidance:

Positive direction and guidance will be utilized in this facility. We believe that most negative behavior matters can be avoided by simply giving positive redirection. If a problem persists a Behavior Plan will be implemented as agreed upon by you, the Parent(s) and the Facility Directors. We believe we must work together to ensure that the consistency in guidance applied at home and at daycare, will help the children be more successful. We embrace the philosophy that children are not bad, but sometimes make bad choices. With encouragement and praise we believe, children will do their best to make good choices. If a child continues to make a bad choice he/she will be removed from the group, and placed in a designated "Thinking Time" area for one minute per age of the child. We have a zero-tolerance policy for physical abuse to children or staff members. This includes, hitting, biting, spitting, or other forms of rough-house. If a child displays a persistent problem with physical aggression under our care, parents will be notified, and that child will be closely shadowed by a staff member using positive reinforcement. A behavior plan will also be implemented to record both positive and negative behaviors. Parents will be notified of the behavior plan and may request a conference to discuss the plan. If the problem continues we will have no choice but to terminate the contract to protect the other children and staff. Please be aware that Giggle Nest considers BITING to be very dangerous and aggressive behavior. We have a zero-tolerance policy for biting and if a child bites another child or staff member, parents will be notified immediately, and the biting child will be unenrolled that day as the safety of all our children takes priority over all else. Please take special note that physical/corporal punishment will not be tolerated in our facility; nor will any form of belittling or bullying be permissible.

Drop of and Pick up Procedures:

Drop off and pick up will go as follows:

Your child may be dropped off by anyone but pick up is different. Any person who picks up your child must show ID and be listed on the registration sheet as a designated pick up persons. Without proper picture identification from the person picking up, your child will not be released to them from our facility. Please advise any adult picking up your child of this policy.

Drop off should be swift as we have many things planned each day and it is imperative that our attention remain on the safety and interactions of our children. Therefore, any nonemergency issues must again, be sent via email or the Brightwheel app. We are also happy to set up conference times with you for in-person communication. Remember we cannot allow your child to come in with food in tow, please leave food at home or outside the building.

Emergency Closure:

In the event of an emergency, where closing the facility is required, you will not be charged for the days said facility is closed. We have never had such an emergency. However, if there was an emergency such as a gas leak or A/C breakdown, or other situation where it was not a safe environment for the children, you would be notified ASAP. In the event that an emergency evacuation was deemed necessary your child(ren) would be taken by qualified staff members, to the Black Mountain Recreation Center located just across the street at 599 Greenway Road, and parents would be contacted as soon as it was safe to do so. Children would be released to their pick-up person in an orderly and safe manner.

Payment:

Payment is due every Friday for the next week of care, with a one-week advance payment upfront with enrollment. If you need special arrangements for this initial cost, please speak with a Director. We accept cash, personal checks, money orders and debit/credit cards. If a personal check is not honored, a returned check charge of $50.00 will be applied. If a check is not honored on two occasions, personal checks will no longer be accepted as an option for payment. We cannot accept late payments at any time. If a payment is late, you risk your child’s space being taken.  A fee of $25.00 per day after payment due date will be assessed and must be satisfied by the next payment cycle. All other additional charges must be paid on the next payment cycle due date. Receipts will be provided for payment every week, as well as a statement at the end of the year for tax purposes. Payments can be made through the Brightwheel app or in person at the facility.

Meals at the Facility:

We pride ourselves on serving nutritious meals and snacks to our children. We follow a program which requires specific guidelines as to what we may serve your children. A menu will be displayed every week at the reception desk and a copy will be provided to parents upon request. Baby food and iron fortified infant formula will be provided by our facility. Proper nutrition, physical activity, and rest periods are critical parts of children’s growth and development. If your child has special dietary needs please discuss this with a Director. However, because we follow strict USDA dietary guidelines, as mandated by our food program provider, no food or drink substitutions can be made without a doctor's note on file. PLEASE BE SURE TO INFORM THE CENTER OF ANY AND ALL OF YOUR CHILD’S ALLERGIES. We do not allow any outside food to be admitted with your child as the range and variety of allergies are too broad to inquire with outside food coming in.

Diapering:

Our center does not provide diapers for your child. If your child is not yet potty trained, please provide diapers on a regular basis. You may take inventory at our facility, of your child’s diapers at any time, and we will notify you when you are down to one dozen diapers in stock. We keep each child’s diaper stock separate and do not share stocked diapers amongst the children. Our center provides Desitin if needed, as well as wipes. If your child is sensitive to either of these please provide your own cream and wipes. We have a structured system for changing diaper and they will be checked hourly. Soiled diapers are changed immediately. Diapers will be checked every hour, unless soiled which will be changed immediately.

Medication/Illness:

Please note that our facility does not administer any type of medication to any child at any time. If regular medication is needed for your child please schedule this around child care times. The only exception is an Epipen which you must provide if allergies exist with your child. If a child must be picked up due to illness at the center, the child may not return until he/she is symptom free for 24 hours with no medication. We understand your need as a parent to have dependable and safe care for your child, but ask you to err on the side of caution when deciding if a child is sick and keep your child home. This ensures the protection of the other children and staff, as well as ensuring your personal attention when your child needs it the most.

Please keep your child home if they are displaying any of the following symptoms as we will not be able to provide care:

  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Sore throat
  • Coughing
  • Fever
  • Pink eye
  • Head lice
  • Suspicious or unidentified Rashes
  • Open sores in or on the mouth

Immunization:

Our facility requires every child to be up to date with all immunizations. When a child receives a new immunization, a copy of shot record must be provided ASAP. If you need an exemption to this requirement, please speak to a Director. Medical exemptions must be prescribed by a Doctor.

Personal Belongings:

Please do not bring personal items from home such as toys, stuffed animals, or any other items that could cause distraction or harm to the children. Your child will have a designated bin at the center which will include:

  • A personal sheet and blanket for the week. When you bring the items on Monday (or first day of attendance), please make sure you put your child's sheet & blanket in his/her plastic bin so it doesn't get mixed up with others. Also, please remember to remove the sheet and blanket on Friday's as we do not have time to remove all the children's items for them and the items are required to be placed in the plastic bins at all times except when being used for quiet time.
  • A change of clothes provided by you, the parent/guardian. If your child is in the process of potty training, we ask that you send at least two sets of pants and underwear. Please send clothing items in a Ziplock bag labeled with your child's name and place them in the child's plastic bin for them.

You will be responsible to wash bedding every Friday (or the last day of your child's scheduled weekly care) or sooner if necessary. Dirty personal clothes will be sent home in a plastic bag that can be found up front next to the sign-in sheet. Please remember to send another extra set of clothing if one is sent home in a plastic bag. If your child needs a change of clothing and does not have one from home, Giggle Nest will provide a new outfit of underwear, pants/shorts, and a shirt at a cost of $30.00 which will be taken directly out of the deposit issued at Registration.  A lost and found bucket will be located behind the front reception desk and any items unclaimed will be donated at the end of every month.

Parent Involvement:

Our center encourages parent involvement in goal setting between parent and provider to help each child reach his/her full potential! Please feel free to communicate any issues or problems your child may be facing with a Director at the center, as well as success stories. We are always anxious to hear exciting or fun news that can be shared during circle time. Please be aware that we are required by the State Department of Child Care Licensing to do an evaluation on every child twice a year. This evaluation will be based on the child's physical and mental abilities such as crawling, walking, jumping, speaking, etc. If you would like to see a blank form we will use, please let us know. You will be advised of these evaluations 2 weeks prior to the actual evaluation and may receive results upon request. These evaluations may help you determine if outside help may be beneficial to your child, such as speech delay or hearing issues etc. The evaluations may help your child's doctor at their next well check. Getting help and knowing resources that are available can help your child boost their confidence helping them to soar!

Caring for Children with Special Needs:

We are happy to provide basic accommodations for any child with special needs. Please be aware we are not a special needs facility and if our accommodations are not efficient in keeping everyone in the facility safe, or in providing a nurturing environment, we would have to terminate enrollment.

Cameras:

Our facility is equipped with 24 hour surveillance cameras to ensure the safety and security of all children, staff, parents, and the building. Security cameras are installed in all classrooms and all outsdoor play areas. The cameras are intended to promote safety and security and can assist Giggle Nest inreviewing any adverse incident that may arise. Because we insist on protecting the privacy of all studenets, parents, and staff, our surveillance system/security cameras are for internal use only. Security camera recordings will be periodically deleted by Giggle Nest, as they are on a system with a limited amount of storage.

Conclusion:

The safety and security as well as stability of your child is our number one priority at Giggle Nest. Children will be supervised at all times under our care. Staff members take pride in our abilities to supervise and manage multiple children while keeping a positive attitude and daily structure. We emphasize independence and self-confidence and recognize the need for reach child to feel important and wanted in our family circle.

We look forward to getting to know you and your child(ren), and watching them grow and succeed. We want to see them accomplish great things that will influence them for a lifetime as we work together as a team in their care.
